Fiji Airways has appointed Jerry Matana and Ilisapeci Delaiwau as the captains of the men’s and women’s rugby sevens teams, respectively, ahead of the highly anticipated Hong Kong 7s tournament starting tomorrow. This appointment is particularly significant for Delaiwau, who will captain the Fijiana team for the first time, while Matana brings valuable experience, having previously captained the national team during last year’s Dubai 7s.

Both teams are eager to perform well in Hong Kong, a venue rich in Fijian rugby tradition. The Fijiana team will begin their campaign against Ireland at 4:25 PM, followed by a match against France at 7:35 PM. In contrast, the men’s team will take on the USA at 4:48 PM and Ireland at 7:58 PM.

This year’s tournament is especially exciting as it will be hosted at the Kai Tak Stadium for the first time. With a spirit of determination, both teams are looking to bounce back, particularly the men’s side, which is motivated after a fourth-place finish at the Vancouver 7s.

As the tournament draws near, fans are filled with anticipation, reflecting the deep-rooted passion for rugby in Fijian culture. Both teams are eager to demonstrate their resilience and skill, potentially inspiring future generations with their performances on an international stage. The Hong Kong 7s promises to be a captivating competition that highlights the talent and spirit of Fijian rugby.
