Eight players from Fiji will represent the British Army rugby team in a match against the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) set for July 12 at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. This match will act as a curtain raiser for the highly anticipated Test match between the Fiji Water Flying Fijians and Scotland.
Colonel Graham Taylor, Chief of Staff at the United Kingdom Defense Academy, expressed enthusiasm during a recent press conference, noting the significance of the upcoming match as both sporting competition and a means to strengthen ties with Fiji. “This will be a good journey and match for our boys,” Taylor stated, emphasizing the bonds formed through rugby between the two nations.
The British Army squad will feature notable players including Semesa Rokoduguni, a former England winger currently enlisted as a Lance Corporal. The eight Fijian players on the British Army team include Rokoduguni, Senitiki Nayalo, Solodrau Radianarova, Luke Rokomoce, Epeli Kotobalavu, Vili Tabuatamata, Vili Kotobalavu, and Vereimi Qorowale.
Colonel Netani Kaukimoce of the RFMF shared confidence in his team’s preparation, citing a blend of experienced players and emerging talent competing in weekly Suva Rugby Union matches. He highlighted the historical ties between the RFMF and the British Army, which date back to the World Wars, asserting that the match is an opportunity to reinforce these bonds while promoting the values of rugby.
