Fiji’s Fijian Flying Circus: A Spectacle of Local Talent Awaits!

Fiji’s very own Fijian Flying Circus is set to enchant audiences once again, showcasing local talent and creativity through vibrant performances. Featuring completely Fijian cast and crew, the circus will run from July 4 to July 20 in Suva, followed by performances from August 2 to August 20 in Nadi.

Director of VOU Dance Fiji, Sachiko Soro, expressed her excitement during a recent press conference about the return of this unique circus, highlighting its role as a platform for nurturing Fijian artists. “Our dedicated team has trained youth from various backgrounds through our Conservatory of Dance,” Soro said, reaffirming the initiative’s commitment to provide pathways for future artists.

Every year, VOU selects 20 young individuals from rural and island communities to participate in a comprehensive two-year Diploma in Dance program. Graduates are guaranteed full-time employment with VOU and receive support for further training opportunities overseas, creating long-term prospects for these emerging talents.

Communications Fiji Ltd (CFL), a key partner in this initiative, emphasized their enthusiasm for the collaboration, with General Manager Charles Taylor stating, “This collaboration is a natural fit for us as we work to promote local talent across various platforms.” He reassured the public that CFL is highly committed to ensuring the Fijian Flying Circus gains widespread visibility.

The excitement surrounding the circus aligns with the growing efforts to enhance cultural engagement within Fiji. This initiative mirrors the successful trajectory of other local events, such as the Fijian Flying Circus’s inaugural tour to French Polynesia—a significant milestone for Fijian performing arts. Just as that tour highlighted the vibrancy of Fiji’s culture on an international platform, the forthcoming performances aim to amplify the nation’s artistic expression.

With events like the Fiji Fringe Festival and the Fiji Showcase also celebrating local talent and culture, there’s hope that these artistic endeavors will not only enrich Fiji’s cultural landscape but also inspire future generations of performers. Engaging the community in such creative enterprises fosters a spirit of unity and pride, showcasing the boundless potential of Fijian artistry to the world.
