Fiji’s government is steadfastly working towards creating a supportive environment for economic recovery and transformation, according to Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica. During the recent inauguration of Family Choice Supermarket & Café Pte Ltd in Walu Bay, Kamikamica highlighted the renewed investor confidence that new businesses like this represent.

The supermarket, owned by entrepreneur Laleena Kumar, reflects the government’s strategic policies aimed at nurturing a dynamic private sector focused on empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Kumar has invested nearly $200,000 into the establishment, which has created 30 jobs, nine of which are new. The store intends to meet local community needs by providing essential goods, catering particularly to workers and residents from nearby maritime islands.

At the opening ceremony, Kamikamica emphasized the importance of fostering entrepreneurship and innovation, arguing that businesses should adhere to high food safety and quality standards to build consumer trust. The government’s ongoing reforms are aimed at ensuring economic expansion alongside vital sectors, including agriculture and tourism, which are pivotal for sustainability and growth.

This new establishment stands as not just a grocery provider but a symbol of resilience in the Fijian economy amid past challenges. It aligns with the broader trend of new businesses emerging to meet local demands, exemplified by similar recent openings such as the Cagivou Supermarket, which also focuses on empowering local communities and addressing unemployment.

Fiji appears to be on a hopeful path, emphasizing innovation and collaboration between the government, private sector, and communities, which can potentially lead to a more prosperous and sustainable future for all Fijians. The commitment to creating a business-friendly environment reinforces a strong vision for economic revival, providing optimism during this critical period.
