Fiji is actively participating in the seminar titled ‘Digital Culture Construction for the Belt and Road’, currently underway in Beijing, China. This two-week event has gathered 35 experts from the IT and cultural sectors across nations involved in the Belt and Road initiative. The goal is to facilitate learning, networking, and the integration of new knowledge relevant to each participant’s field of work.

Albert Kai Tung Wong, an IT specialist from Suva City Council, is proudly representing Fiji at this seminar. He is among the key figures contributing to the development of Fiji’s digital strategy for the years 2025 to 2030, which aims to foster substantial digital transformation throughout the country by 2030.

In an interview, Mr. Wong expressed his enthusiasm about the opportunity, stating that he aims to communicate with peers in the field, gain insights, and explore potential partnerships that will support the implementation of Fiji’s digital strategy. He noted the notable advancements in e-service technology that he observed upon arriving in Hong Kong, highlighting how services from airports to dining options seamlessly utilized technology for efficiency. Mr. Wong expressed optimism about adapting similar innovations within Fiji, believing that if a vast country like China can implement such systems, Fiji has the potential to do the same.

This seminar, organized and funded by the Chinese government in collaboration with the Chinese Cultural Centre and the Chinese Embassy in Fiji, reflects growing international cooperation and knowledge exchange. By harnessing advancements in technology and cultural integration, Fiji stands to benefit significantly, enhancing its digital landscape and ultimately improving service delivery for its citizens.

Overall, Mr. Wong’s participation instills hope for Fiji’s future as it embarks on a journey towards a digitally transformed society and greater responsiveness in governance and service provision.
