Seven community-based organizations in Fiji’s Central and Eastern Divisions have recently been awarded financial grants from the Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry. These funds aim to foster community well-being through various initiatives. During a ceremony on June 8, Minister Charan Jeath Singh distributed grants to religious groups, women’s clubs, and other community-led organizations as part of the second round of the Multi-Ethnic Grant Programme this year.
In the first round, $1.48 million was allocated, while the second round sees an investment of $228,275. Mr. Singh articulated the programme’s mission to empower and strengthen community organizations, emphasizing its contribution to social cohesion and inclusivity in Fiji.
Feedback from various communities has been notably positive, reflecting that the program has not only improved access to essential resources but also fostered collaboration among community members. For instance, the Kalabu Women’s Club in Nasinu received $3,500 to purchase kitchen utensils, which will enhance their ability to host community events without relying on borrowed equipment. Similarly, the Nukumoto Women’s Club in Rewa, which was granted $4,590, plans to install streetlights to improve safety for residents returning home at night.
These initiatives are part of the broader goals outlined in previous funding efforts, which have focused on uplifting marginalized groups and fostering constructive multicultural relations within Fiji’s diverse population. The government’s commitment through these grants signifies hope for an interconnected future, where community members collaborate toward shared goals and enhance each other’s well-being.
This funding further demonstrates the Ministry’s long-term strategies and unwavering dedication to the social development of all ethnic communities in Fiji, creating a more inclusive society where every citizen can thrive.
