Newly elected MP Inosi Kuridrani has shared insights on the 2025-2026 Budget, emphasizing that it is designed to address developmental disparities in Fiji through the equitable distribution of national wealth rather than merely balancing financial figures. In his inaugural address in Parliament, he pointed out that this budget aims to improve the quality of life and standard of living for all Fijians.

Kuridrani described the budget as one that builds confidence, invests in infrastructure, and enhances development, particularly in rural and remote areas. He noted the importance of prudent financial management and job creation as central tenets of this fiscal strategy, which intends to strengthen the country’s economy and expand its export capacity.

Critically, Kuridrani contrasted the current budget with those of the previous government, labeling it as responsible and devoid of the “freebies” that may foster dependency among citizens. He dismissed claims from the opposition, particularly from the Leader of the Opposition Inia Seruiratu, who described it as a “panic budget.” Instead, Kuridrani challenged the opposition to present an alternative plan, emphasizing the need for constructive dialogue rather than criticism without solutions.

Echoing the perspectives of other stakeholders, including the Nadi Chamber of Commerce, which has praised the budget for its fairness and inclusivity, Kuridrani underscored a hopeful vision for Fiji. The budget emphasizes community input and considers essential needs across the population, signaling a forward-looking approach in navigating economic challenges.

The government’s commitment to fostering growth and stability through this budget frame presents a constructive path, aiming to uplift the quality of life for all citizens while addressing immediate socio-economic challenges. The focus on dialogue suggests potential for collaboration that will enhance the inclusiveness of future budgetary measures, paving the way for a more equitable and prosperous Fiji.
