Waisea Nayacalevu, captain of the Flying Fijians and Ospreys centre, has expressed profound sorrow following the tragic death of fellow Fijian rugby player Josaia Raisuqe. Nayacalevu described the news as shattering, admitting to breaking down upon learning of Raisuqe’s passing.
“I just want to take this time to give my condolence to Josaia’s family, and all his relatives back in the village during this time of sorrow. My soul is mourning after getting the news of my brother Josaia’s passing. His passing hurts and I don’t know how to describe it, I’m just hurt knowing that one of my brothers is gone forever,” Nayacalevu stated.
Raisuqe, who was striving to support his family back home while competing abroad, tragically passed away at the age of 30 after being struck by a train in a serious accident in France. His death has resonated deeply within the Fijian rugby community, which has recently endured multiple losses, including that of Sekove Tagicakiverata, a promising young athlete who also faced an untimely death.
