A slow-moving trough of low pressure to the west of Fiji, now drifting southwards, will keep a moist easterly wind flow over the islands. The trough’s cloud and showers are expected to affect much of the group through tomorrow, with periods of cloud and rain across several western and eastern provinces and island groups.
Cloudy periods with some showers are likely for the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri, Ra‑Rakiraki, southern Bua and Cakaudrove provinces, Taveuni, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, and the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. Elsewhere conditions will be partly cloudy with a chance of afternoon or evening showers. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms are possible in many areas, and isolated heavy falls may occur.
Locally heavy rain from these storms could lead to flash flooding in low‑lying and flood‑prone areas, so residents in susceptible locations should be aware of rapidly rising water during intense downpours. Winds are expected to be moderate from the east to southeast, fresh at times today and turning moderate to fresh easterly on Sunday with gusts possible. Seas will be moderate to rough around the islands.
Key centre forecasts: Navua, Suva and Nausori will see cloudy periods with showers and afternoon or evening thunderstorms, a minimum near 23°C and a maximum around 31°C, with similar conditions and temperatures expected on Sunday. Nadi, Lautoka and Ba should expect partly cloudy conditions with afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms, isolated heavy falls possible, with temperatures from 23°C to about 32°C. Yasawa and the Mamanuca group will be mostly cloudy with showers and possible evening thunderstorms (23–31°C), while Sigatoka and the Coral Coast and Rakiraki also face afternoon/evening showers and isolated heavy falls (23–32°C).
Further afield, Labasa, Savusavu, Nabouwalu and Taveuni are forecast cloudy at times with showers and possible thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls; Labasa’s highs may reach about 32–33°C. Kadavu, Lau and Lomaiviti groups will also see showers and isolated thunderstorms with highs near 30–31°C. Rotuma remains under a moist easterly flow with a trough nearby: cloudy periods, some showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected, with moderate easterly winds and seas, temperatures around 23–31°C, and occasional showers into Sunday.
