Swire Shipping Fijian Drua’s forwards coach, Chris Gibbes, has expressed optimism about the team’s development as they prepare for the upcoming Super Rugby Pacific season. He noted significant improvements within the organization, indicating that the club is on the right track compared to this time last year.
Gibbes acknowledged that while there is still progress to be made, the current state of the Drua is much more positive than in the previous season, which he described as disappointing by the team’s own expectations despite some moments of growth.
An honest reflection on last year’s performance has ignited a renewed focus during this pre-season, especially concerning mindset, attitude, and the commitment required for improvement. Over the past six to seven weeks, the squad has intertwined skill-based training with a stronger emphasis on physical preparation, with players responding positively to the rigorous demands.
The coach highlighted the dedication of the group, noting that their hard work is yielding encouraging results. Every new season brings its own excitement, especially with fresh personnel and dynamics as new players join the team.
Gibbes emphasized that the return of Flying Fijians players will soon unify the squad and enhance their preparations as they work toward the main season. He also pointed out several upcoming events that fans can look forward to, including games in Lautoka, the Super Round in Christchurch, and seven home matches in Fiji.
With a firm determination to improve on their previous performances, Gibbes conveyed the team’s commitment to delivering stronger showings for their supporters, fostering hope and excitement within the fanbase as the season approaches.
