Weather Report

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at 7:30 PM on Thursday, March 6, 2025

Situation: Here’s the scoop — we’ve got a low pressure system lounging to the south, and it seems like it’s settled in for a bit of a vacation. This lazy trough of low pressure isn’t in a hurry to leave, bringing along its friends: clouds and showers that will be sticking around for a few days like an uninvited party guest!

Forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group:

Today: Expect some fine weather, albeit with a side of afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms crashing the party over the eastern half of Viti Levu (think Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu North-Naitasiri), as well as Southern Bua and Cakaudrove. We might even see some isolated heavy downpours accompanied by thunder — nature’s way of keeping the drama alive! Just a heads-up: if you live in low-lying areas, be cautious of flash floods; those raindrops can team up for a surprise!

Elsewhere, we’ll have intermittent cloudy periods with a few sprinkles here and there.

Tomorrow: Cloudy periods are back, bringing their friends — showers and isolated thunderstorms — to most areas. Yes, you guessed it: isolated heavy falls might lead to flash flooding in those ever-popular low-lying spots.

We’re looking at some moderately fresh winds shifting from the south to northwest, and the seas might get a bit bumpy, so don’t try surfing those waves unless you’re quite the daredevil!

Saturday’s Outlook: More clouds, more showers, and yes, isolated thunderstorms are still on the agenda — it’s like a weather rerun!

For specific areas:

Navua/Suva/Nausori: Fine weather today, except for some possible late showers and thunderstorms. Starting tomorrow, expect a cloudy attitude, showers, and those aforementioned thunderstorms. Watch out, low-lying areas!

Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Cloudy weather with a dash of showers coming your way. Saturday will continue the trend with more clouds and the occasional thunder.

Sigatoka/Coral Coast: More clouds and a sprinkle of showers, with Saturday promising to follow suit — let’s not break that cloud streak!

Tavua/Rakiraki: More clouds and showers! Just in case you were hoping for a change, Saturday will keep the clouds and showers rolling in.

Yasawa/Mamanuca group: You guessed it – cloudy periods with some showers. Saturday doesn’t want to break the pattern either!

Labasa: Expect cloudy periods and showers. Saturday will bring more of the same — no surprises here!

Savusavu: Fine today with a chance of an afternoon or evening shower or thunderstorm. Tomorrow, cloudy periods rejoin the fray.

Lau/Lomaiviti: Cloudy with some shower entertainment in your forecast. Saturday’s lineup is similar – another round of cloud and showers!

Kadavu: Cloudy periods with light showers. Saturday will continue the low-key vibe.

Rotuma: An active trough of low pressure is continuing to make its presence known. Expect occasional rain, heavy at times, and a few thunderstorms throwing a bit of excitement into your day. Moderate to fresh northwesterly winds will stir up some moderate to rough seas — perfect for those who enjoy a scenic splash!

Saturday Outlook for Rotuma: Rain and thunderstorms are expected to carry on. Better keep that umbrella handy!

So, let’s hunker down with a good book or movie, embrace the weather’s moody charm, and hope for a sunny smile soon!
