Weather Alert Update

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 12:27 PM on Thursday, February 26, 2026

Buckle your umbrellas, folks! A HEAVY RAIN ALERT is now officially underway for the Western Division and Kadavu. It’s about to get wet and wild, but don’t worry—it’s just Mother Nature showing off her dramatic flair!

Meanwhile, we’ve also hoisted a STRONG WIND ALERT for the Western Division. So if you have any plans of flying a kite, you might want to think again—or at least hold on tight!

Situation: A moody trough of low pressure has decided to hang out over Fiji, bringing along its unfortunate companion, the overcast cloud and showers. And let’s not forget the particularly moist winds blowing in from the north and northeast. It’s a little too humid for comfort, but hey, at least we won’t need a sauna today!

Forecast until midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group: Expect occasional showers with a sprinkle of isolated heavy falls and the occasional thunderstorm over the Western Division, Interior, and Eastern Parts of the larger islands. We’re talking Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri, Macuata, Cakaudrove, and Southern Bua, Taveuni, Lomaiviti, Lau, Kadavu, Yasawa, and Mamanuca groups—yep, that’s a whole party of wetness!

Elsewhere, expect partly cloudy skies but don’t get too cozy—afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms with heavy downpours could crash your plans. Localized heavy rainfall may also lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas, so keep your flip-flops handy!

Wind: Moderate north to northeast winds, fresh at times. Seas? Moderately rough—might want to avoid any wild swimming adventures for now.

Outlook for Saturday: The Western Division can look forward to more of the same, with occasional rain, the occasional boom of thunder, and winds gusting from moderate to strong at an average of 40 km/hr, with gusts sneaking up to 60 km/hr. Rough seas, so if you’re planning to test your sea legs, you might want to reconsider.
