Weather Update
Hold onto your umbrellas, folks, because Fiji is in for quite the adventure! As of Saturday night – yes, we’re still stuck in February 2026 – the weather gods have decreed that a Heavy Rain Warning is officially in effect for the entire Fiji Group. So, if you thought a soggy sock was the worst thing you could face, think again.
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any wetter, a Flash Flood Alert is also currently splashing around the Western Division, specifically from Sigatoka all the way to Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, and Rakiraki. That’s right; if you’re in these areas, it might be wise to invest in a life raft or at least some very sturdy wellies.
And don’t forget about the strong wind! A robust gust advisory sweeps across the Western Division, Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, Kadavu, and, surprise, surprise, nearby smaller islands. Even the land areas of Macuata, Bua, Taveuni, and their little buddies are feeling the wind’s wrath, with potential gusts that could practically take your hat off.
Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone Urmil is having a little midlife crisis over Vanuatu and is expected to meander southeast, giving us more than our fair share of dramatic weather as it passes by. Expect a strong northwesterly wind flow complete with active rain bands, especially over the Western Division as the weekend winds down.
Here’s what’s coming your way by midnight tomorrow:
For the Western Division (Yasawa and Mamanuca included), Kadavu, and other smaller islands, prepare for moderate to fresh winds transitioning into strong gusts averaging around 45 km/hr, with thrilling gusts hitting up to 75 km/hr. You may want to rethink that picnic idea!
Macuata and Bua Province aren’t getting a free pass either. They’ll experience winds whipping up to 40 km/hr, with a few gusts just for fun. Oh, and the seas? Rough to very rough. So, maybe save those boat plans for a sunnier day, shall we?
For the rest of Fiji, expect winds that could give you a friendly shove from the north to northwest—definitely not what you want if you’re just trying to walk your dog. Rain? Oh yes! Occasional heavy downpours and a sprinkle of thunderstorms are on the menu.
Looking ahead to Monday: Western Division, get ready for more of the same. Heavy rainfall, thunder, and winds gusting to a leisurely 60 km/hr. Flood-prone areas, you might just want to establish a moat.
Specific forecasts read like this:
– Navua/Suva/Nausori: Rainy days ahead! Tomorrow’s min: 25, max: 30.
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Expect those trusty winds and a sprinkle of rain. Min: 25, max: 30.
– Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: They’ll see those strong winds and occasional rain. Min: 25, max: 30.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca: Battling the wind and those delightful rain showers. Min: 25, max: 30.
– Savusavu: It’s a wet and wild ride, folks. Min: 25, max: 30.
And for Rotuma, strap on your rain gears—showers are becoming more frequent and heavier. Today’s max: 30, with steady rain keeping us company into Monday.
Remember, while the weather might be a downer, it’s still a great excuse to cozy up with a cup of coffee and watch the drama unfold from the warmth of your home. Just mind the wind and the puddles! Stay safe out there!
