Fiji Sugar Corporation Ltd has announced the appointment of Mr. Adrian Sunil Parshu Ram as a new Director on the Board, effective from April 1, 2025. This decision follows the end of Mr. Athil Narayan’s tenure, who served for seven years. Chairman Mr. Nitya Reddy expressed gratitude for Mr. Narayan’s significant contributions to promoting climate sustainability and advancing the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and ethanol in the industry.
Mr. Reddy warmly welcomed Mr. Parshu Ram, a lawyer and the managing partner at Gibson & Company in Labasa, emphasizing his rich expertise in various aspects of law, finance, and business management. With qualifications including degrees in Law and Commerce from the University of Queensland, an MBA from USP, and CPA membership, Mr. Parshu Ram is well-equipped to address the pressing challenges the sugar industry faces today, such as declining cane production and increasing operational costs.
Mr. Reddy pointed out that the Fiji sugar industry is grappling with the most significant financial turmoil in its 150-year history, marked by issues like falling milling efficiencies and deteriorating infrastructure. He highlighted the urgent need for innovative leadership to navigate these challenges effectively.
The selection of Mr. Parshu Ram is viewed as a strategic move to bolster the FSC Board’s capabilities, especially in light of recent efforts to rejuvenate the sugar sector through engagement with international partners and a strong focus on sustainability.
