The Fiji Sports Council Board has announced plans to appoint an independent investigator to look into new allegations against the council, as confirmed by chairman Peniasi Sokia. Following a special board meeting held on February 17, where six members were present, the board reached a unanimous decision to engage an external party to conduct a comprehensive review of the claims.
Sokia explained that the focus of the meeting was solely on evaluating the allegations and the accompanying documentation, leading to the decision for an independent investigation. “It was resolved and approved unanimously by all members present that an independent investigation is necessary,” he stated.
Furthermore, Sokia revealed that the board is in negotiations with professional auditors and investigators to ensure a prompt start to the investigation process. He emphasized that until an investigator is appointed, he will refrain from making further comments on the matter.
The Fiji Sports Council has committed to providing additional updates once the independent investigator is formally engaged, highlighting its dedication to transparency and accountability in handling these allegations. This approach reflects a proactive stance towards maintaining the integrity of the council amidst the scrutiny.
