The 2025 Fiji Sports Awards will take place on July 4 at Suva’s Vodafone Arena, organisers confirmed, with a Nominees Night scheduled for June 20 that will formally recognise contenders across 11 categories. The announcement sets the calendar for what organisers say will be one of the most hotly contested editions of the national awards after a year of strong regional and international results for Fijian athletes.
Nominees Night on June 20 will be more than a precursor to the main ceremony: every shortlisted individual and team will receive a nominee trophy in acknowledgement of their achievements during the year. Winners will not be announced on the night, but the event is intended to give athletes, coaches, officials and support staff a dedicated occasion to reflect on the work behind their nominations and to celebrate with teammates, families and mentors before the July awards gala.
The awards will recognise excellence across 11 categories spanning elite athletes, teams, coaches and contributors who help develop sport in Fiji at grassroots and elite levels. The event is being coordinated by the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC), in partnership with the Fiji National Sports Commission and the Fiji Sports Council, which together provide the logistical and institutional backing for the national celebration.
FASANOC president and chair of the organising committee Cathy Wong reiterated the awards’ broader purpose, saying the ceremony goes beyond simply recognising results. “This is not just a celebration of results, but a recognition of the dedication, discipline, and passion that define Fiji’s sporting community,” Wong said. Her comments reflect organisers’ aim to honour not only headline-winning performances but also the often-unseen commitment that enables sport across the country.
Organisers said the selection process this year will be especially competitive given recent performances across rugby, athletics, swimming, football and other disciplines. The strength and depth of Fiji’s sporting calendar — from regional competitions to international fixtures — has produced a long list of contenders, increasing anticipation for both the nominee announcements and the final award night in July.
As Nominees Night approaches, attention within the sporting community is expected to shift to the shortlists and the stories behind them. For many nominees, the June 20 event represents a rare public moment of recognition ahead of the formal winners’ announcement on July 4, and organisers said it will mark the official start of the countdown to one of Fiji’s premier annual sporting gatherings.
