Weather Update
Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 3:30 PM on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for heavy rain across the interior and southern regions of Viti Levu as well as the southern parts of Vanua Levu. It seems Mother Nature is throwing a party, and we’re all invited – just make sure you bring your raincoat!
Here’s the weather scoop: A wayward trough of low pressure, along with a bunch of cloud and rain, has decided to linger over the Fiji islands, deciding maybe it should take a leisurely stroll towards the west. Meanwhile, a gentle breeze from the north-northeast is keeping things interesting.
Forecast through midnight tomorrow:
Today, expect occasional rain with isolated thunderstorms making special guest appearances over Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and nearby islands, particularly in the interior and northern parts of Viti Levu (yes, that includes Lautoka, Ba, and Rakiraki). The Lau, Yasawa, and Mamanuca groups might also join in on the wet shenanigans. Elsewhere, enjoy some cloudy moments sprinkled with afternoon or evening showers and the enthusiasm of thunderstorms, with heavy rainfall making a splash.
Beware! Localised heavy falls could lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas. So, if you suddenly see a paddleboard pop up on your street, just know it’s time to swim to safety!
Looking ahead to tomorrow:
You’ll see some cloudy periods with showers gracing the interior and eastern parts of the larger islands (we are talking about places like Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra-Rakiraki, Cakaudrove, and Southern Bua), along with the lovely islands of Lomaiviti, Lau, and Kadavu. The rest can look forward to mainly fine weather – although don’t be too surprised if an afternoon or evening shower or thunderstorm decides to crash the party.
Minor floods are still in the cards for low-lying spots, so keep those floaties handy! Moderate northeasterly winds may kick up a bit, so secure your hats and anything that might take off like a rocket in a gust of wind.
Outlook for Thursday: Expect cloud and some showers to return over those familiar interior and eastern areas, while the rest can bask in some mostly fine weather. Just remember to keep an eye out for those isolated afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms.
