The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) is set to engage with the chiefly village of Viseisei in Vuda, Lautoka, later this month in a bid to acquire land aimed at resolving ground shortages and enhancing infrastructure for player development and hosting major competitions. FRU chair John Sanday indicated that preliminary verbal agreements have been established with the Mataqali and the iTaukei Land Trust Board, with only the formalization of the agreement pending.

Sanday shared that the land being considered encompasses around 60 acres. Following the finalization of the agreement, Rugby House plans to conduct a traditional ceremony to formalize the land acquisition.

“We hope to make the formal approach to them at the end of the month, with the date to be announced shortly, during which we will submit the formal application. The discussion involves 60 acres, and the TLTB has signaled a willingness to offer a tourism lease, which we will explore further when we meet them at the end of the month,” Sanday remarked.

In addition to this endeavor in Lautoka, Sanday recently received an invitation from the Macuata Rugby Union to visit Labasa, where another potential site for rugby development is under consideration, measuring approximately 22 acres. This expansion of initiatives reflects the FRU’s commitment to fostering rugby development and infrastructure in Fiji, which is expected to enhance the overall sporting landscape in the country.
