Loraini Seru has made history by being appointed as the first female Assistant Commissioner of Police within the Fiji Police Force. Prior to this significant promotion, Seru served as the head of the Criminal Investigations Department, showcasing her extensive experience and dedication to law enforcement. She will now lead the Internal Affairs and Professional Standards Unit.

Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu highlighted that the appointment was made following recommendations from a promotion board that included both internal and external members, ensuring that the selection was based purely on merit. He expressed confidence that ACP Seru’s appointment would serve as an inspiration to other women officers and young girls who dream of a career in policing.

Tudravu emphasized the importance of maintaining merit-based appointments, stating that while there are policies in place to support the advancement of women in law enforcement, it is crucial for women officers to seize opportunities as they arise.

Beginning her police career in 1995, Seru has served in various capacities, including roles in the Western and Central Divisions, before her significant tenure in the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters located in Toorak. In response to her new role, ACP Seru encouraged her female colleagues to explore areas within the Fiji Police Force that have traditionally been male-dominated, pointing out the abundant opportunities available for women in the field.

This groundbreaking appointment not only marks a milestone for the Fiji Police Force but also serves as a beacon of hope for gender equality in law enforcement, inspiring more women to break barriers and pursue careers in this vital public service.
