Over the weekend, authorities conducted multiple drug busts in Nadi and Suva, resulting in several arrests related to the possession of methamphetamine. The arrests occurred between New Year’s Day and January 2, with the police taking three individuals into custody during this time.

On January 1, a 30-year-old man from Nanuku Settlement was apprehended along Grantham Rd, where police discovered multiple zip-lock bags containing a white substance believed to be methamphetamine. Authorities also seized smoking apparatuses, dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, and cash thought to be proceeds from criminal activities.

In a separate incident, a 25-year-old man was arrested in Votualevu with clear plastic bags containing white substances believed to be methamphetamine. Additionally, on January 2, a 37-year-old man from Makoi was taken into custody for possessing a zip-lock bag with a similar substance.

All suspects remain in custody while the seized substances undergo analysis.

In another development, three individuals were arrested at Nadi Airport for possessing over $10,000 in cash. They have since been questioned and released as investigations into the origin of the funds continue. This case is being managed by the Criminal Investigations Department’s Anti-Money Laundering Unit, focusing on the potential links between the cash and criminal activities.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime Mesake Waqa emphasized that the investigation into drug-related offenses will expand to address the proceeds of crime and unexplained wealth. This initiative aligns with Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu’s directive aimed at combatting Fiji’s drug trade by targeting the financial gains made by a select few at the expense of the broader community.

These efforts signify a strong commitment from law enforcement to ensure public safety and address the persistent issue of drug trafficking in the region.
