The Fiji Police Force has reported significant success in their recent snap checks, resulting in multiple seizures of illegal substances. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu highlighted that during a routine stop at a roadblock on Bagasau Road, officers from the Tukavesi Police Station discovered a black bag containing dried leaves suspected to be marijuana in a bus’s luggage compartment.

Further attempts yielded more results when officers conducted another snap check on Sabeto Road that resulted in the seizure of several branches of dried leaves believed to be marijuana. The occupants of the vehicle were subsequently arrested.

In a separate operation by the Southern Division’s Serious Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit (SD/SOCIU), a 35-year-old man from Navua was apprehended for possessing multiple sachets of what is suspected to be methamphetamine, along with dried branches thought to be marijuana. The same unit arrested another resident of Navua, also aged 35, who was found with more dried marijuana.

A significant raid was carried out in Raiwai by the SD SOCIU in collaboration with the K9 and Fiji Detector Dog Unit, which led to the arrest of two men and a woman. During this operation, authorities uncovered white substances suspected to be methamphetamine, along with several items believed to be stolen, as well as both foreign and local currency.

All seized substances have been forwarded for analysis, and the police plan to sustain joint operations across the five policing divisions to combat drug-related activities effectively.

This proactive approach by the Fiji Police not only helps in the immediate seizure of illicit substances but also sends a strong message against drug trafficking within the community. Continued vigilance in law enforcement efforts could foster a safer environment for all residents. It is encouraging to see the authorities taking decisive action, as these measures play a critical role in maintaining public safety and enhancing community awareness about the dangers of drug use.
