The first-ever Bluelight Youth Camp has successfully concluded at the Chevalier Training Center in Wainadoi, marking a significant step for the Fiji Police Force in its efforts to empower young individuals. This week-long initiative specifically targeted vulnerable youth, such as school dropouts, street dwellers, and those from disadvantaged backgrounds, providing them with essential skills and knowledge to navigate their future challenges.
Throughout the program, participants engaged in a variety of educational sessions covering leadership, restorative justice, cyber safety, drug awareness, and sexual offenses. In addition to classroom learning, a key component of the camp included visits to Medium and Maximum Correctional Facilities and St. Giles Hospital, which served to highlight the real-life consequences of negative choices and underscore the importance of making positive decisions.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Salanieta Radaniva, the Director for Community Policing, officiated the closing ceremony. She expressed gratitude to the parents and the Wainadoi community for their support and urged the participants to utilize the skills and lessons gained from the camp as a guide towards a brighter future. “The Bluelight program provides mentoring, guidance, and support to help youths align their focus towards a brighter future,” Radaniva emphasized.
This initiative reflects a broader trend seen in similar programs in Fiji, such as the Blue Light Camp inaugurated at the Lautoka Delana Primary School. Both initiatives aim to forge strong relationships between law enforcement and youth, focusing on developing critical life skills and leadership abilities to foster safer communities. By engaging the youth in such proactive educational and mentoring programs, the Fiji Police Force demonstrates its commitment to steering young people away from potential criminal activities and towards positive community roles.
The Bluelight Youth Camp and similar programs signify hope and empowerment for the youth of Fiji, providing them with the opportunity to change the course of their lives positively and become active contributors to their communities. With continued support from parents, communities, and law enforcement, there is optimism for a brighter future for these young individuals.
