Weather Update

Good morning, Fiji! Grab your umbrellas and secure your hats because Mother Nature is cranking up the drama this March!

A HEAVY RAIN WARNING is currently waving its flashy red flag over the entire Fiji group. That’s right—it’s time for the rain to perform its wet and wild dance, so don’t forget to check the Special Weather Bulletin if you fancy a deeper dive into the downpour details.

Not to be overshadowed, a FLASH FLOOD ALERT is keeping an eye on the Western Division from Sigatoka to Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, and Rakiraki. If you’ve been considering a spontaneous swim, now might not be the best time—unless you find yourself in a canoe!

In addition, strong winds are here to join the party across the Western Division, Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Kadavu, and even the nearby tiny islands. Hold onto your hats—literally!

So, what’s happening with Tropical Cyclone URMIL, you ask? As of this morning, it’s lounging 480 kilometers southwest of Kadavu, moving southeast and showering us with some vigorous rain-bands and northwesterly winds. It’s like a weather buffet of blustery winds and torrential rain, folks!

Here’s what to expect today for the Fiji group:
– For the Western Division (and those lovely Yasawa and Mamanuca islands), expect strong winds puffing at an average speed of 45 km/hr and gusting up to 75 km/hr. (That’s blustery enough to blow your flip-flops off!)
– Macuata and Bua Province might have a less intense day with moderate to fresh winds chillin’ at 40 km/hr, with gusts up to 60 km/hr—definitely not a light breeze.
– And for everyone else, expect a bit of rain, with thunder disrupting our serene island vibe from time to time.

As for tomorrow, keep those raincoats handy! The forecast hints at more rain—this time with a potential thunderhead or two making an appearance. Monday will be looking cloudy, with occasional torrential rain leading to localized flooding in low-lying areas. Yes, the weather gods might not exactly be hitting the snooze button!

Here’s a quick breakdown for some key locations:
– Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Think strong winds and wet weather, with highs reaching up to 30°C. Enjoy the water views—just maybe not from the ground!
– Yasawa/Mamanuca: A repeat of the wind and rain episode, but hey, it’s all part of the island experience, right?
– And for our friends in Savusavu, welcome to heavy rain central with potential thunderstorms—something to write home about!

Remember, at this point, it’s best to stay cozy indoors, sip on your favorite beverage, and just let the storms do their thing. Keep safe, Fiji, and may your umbrellas hold strong!
