The Fiji Meteorological Service has reported that Tropical Cyclone Urmil was positioned approximately 520 kilometres southwest of Nadi at 6 am today. The cyclone is currently moving southeast at an increased speed of around 30 kilometres per hour. While the cyclone’s center is not expected to make direct contact with Fiji, the associated rainbands and strong winds are already impacting various regions across the nation.
Weather officials have issued a strong advisory for the public to stay vigilant and adhere to all official weather warnings coming from Nadi, alongside guidance from the National Disaster Management Office. Authorities strongly advise communities, particularly those living in low-lying and coastal areas, to exercise caution as the unsettled weather conditions continue.
As the situation develops, residents are encouraged to prepare for potential adverse weather impacts and to stay informed through official channels. Despite the potential challenges posed by Tropical Cyclone Urmil, the proactive approach by meteorological and disaster management authorities offers a sense of reassurance that safety measures are in place to protect the community.
