Fiji Launches Exciting Road Safety Competition for Students!

The National Schools Road Safety Competition has officially been launched today, alongside the School Road Safety Club initiative, both designed to promote road safety awareness among students in Fiji. Irimaia Rokosawa, Chief Executive of the Land Transport Authority (LTA), emphasized the importance of early education in cultivating responsible road users.

“The National Schools Road Safety Competition encourages primary and secondary students to creatively express their understanding of road safety through activities such as poster design, video creation, and even TikTok content,” Rokosawa stated. This initiative not only allows students to engage critically with the subject but also encourages them to suggest practical solutions for road safety challenges.

Rokosawa reiterated that road safety is an essential life skill, and these initiatives are crucial in turning students into responsible citizens and advocates for safer road environments. The competition is part of a broader effort to instill safe habits among Fiji’s youth, contributing positively to community awareness and road safety culture.

The launch of this initiative coincides with ongoing efforts in Fiji to enhance road safety, such as the upcoming National Road Safety Week, which aims to reduce fatalities and promote responsible behavior among all road users. Previous articles noted a decline in road fatalities from 62 last year to 38 this year, signifying that these awareness efforts are crucial.

As Fiji continues to tackle road safety challenges, initiatives like the National Schools Road Safety Competition serve as hopeful reminders that educating and engaging the younger generation can significantly impact the future of road safety. This proactive approach not only fosters a culture of safety but also encourages young advocates to lead the way in their communities.
