The Navatusila Grid Extension Project in Nabutautau, Navosa, was officially launched yesterday by the Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport, Hon. Ro Filipe Tuisawau. This initiative is part of the Government’s broader strategy to ensure comprehensive electricity access across Fiji, particularly focusing on rural and interior communities.
The project, which cost $5.4 million and is entirely funded by the Government, has successfully connected ten villages and one settlement, directly benefiting 407 households and approximately 2,035 residents. The work involved extending the main power grid and implementing safe house wiring, ensuring that homes are adequately prepared to receive a stable electricity supply.
Access to electricity is anticipated to significantly enhance living conditions in the area, providing better study environments for students, improving health services, fostering small business development, and boosting agricultural productivity.
Minister Tuisawau praised the collaboration between community leaders, Energy Fiji Limited (EFL), and Ministry officials during the project’s execution. He expressed gratitude to the residents of Navatusila for their patience and support throughout the various stages of this initiative. The minister emphasized that this project entails more than mere infrastructure; it signifies a move toward increased opportunities and empowerment for the people of Navatusila.
