Authorities in Fiji have intensified their crackdown on illegal drug possession, resulting in multiple arrests within the last 48 hours across various divisions.
In the Southern Division, significant arrests were made in Wailea Settlement in Vatuwaqa, Tamavua, and Narere. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, reported that a woman in her 20s and a man in his 30s were detained in Wailea Settlement when police discovered white substances, suspected to be methamphetamine. In Tamavua, another man in his 30s was apprehended for possessing dried leaves and a zip-lock bag containing seeds believed to be marijuana. Narere also saw action, with a man in his 30s arrested after police found several sachets containing dried leaves, also suspected to be marijuana.
The policing efforts extended to Suva, where a man in his 40s was arrested at a carrier stand after officials found dried leaves suspected to be marijuana in his belongings. In the Eastern Division, authorities arrested a man in his 50s in Korovou Town after seizing numerous bundles of what is believed to be marijuana. The Northern Division also reported an arrest; a man in his 20s was caught with zip-lock bags containing white substances, again believed to be methamphetamine.
All of the seized substances have been sent for forensic analysis, and investigations are ongoing.
