Airlines servicing Fiji are experiencing a robust increase in travel demand, resulting in a steady rise in seat occupancy. According to recent data from the Fiji Bureau of Statistics, the international passenger load factor hit 76.3 percent last year, marking a slight increase of 0.4 percentage points from 2024.

The statistics highlight that airlines have made available over 11.2 billion seat kilometres, while passenger traffic has surged to 8.57 billion passenger kilometres. This signifies a promising trend in the travel sector, reflecting a growing appetite for international travel to the islands.

In addition to passenger transport, cargo movement has also shown significant improvement. The international freight load factor saw a remarkable rise to 55.6 percent, up by 4.4 percentage points from the previous year. Acting Chief Executive Apisalome Tamani commented that these figures demonstrate vital measures of airline productivity and capacity, encompassing both passenger transport and cargo services.

Domestically, air travel within Fiji has remained consistently busy throughout 2025. The load factor for domestic passengers was reported at 71.8 percent, which is a slight decrease from 2024. Airlines provided an impressive 94.3 million seat kilometres on domestic routes, with passenger traffic reaching 67.7 million passenger kilometres. Notably, cargo movement on domestic flights also increased, resulting in a freight load factor of 68.8 percent.

The total number of passengers on domestic routes rose to 390,923 last year, compared to 374,306 in 2024, indicating a positive trend in local air travel as well. As the travel industry continues to rebound, the Fiji Bureau of Statistics anticipates releasing its next aircraft statistics report covering the March quarter of 2026 in June, which will likely provide further insights into the sector’s ongoing growth.
