A team of aviation security experts from Airports Council International (ACI) has arrived in Nadi to conduct a comprehensive review of Fiji Airports’ security governance, systems, and processes. This inaugural evaluation is crucial as the demand for air travel is increasing in the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Fiji Airports’ CEO, Mesake Nawari, emphasized the importance of this review, noting the significant role Fiji Airports plays in both the national and the broader Blue Pacific region. He stated that the APEX review team would assess current security practices, identify potential security gaps, and provide recommendations in alignment with Annex 17 Standards, the Aviation Security Manual, and industry best practices.
The review will focus on various critical aspects of airport security, including policies, surveillance practices, risk assessments, incident responses, daily operations, and the infrastructure of terminal buildings and runways.
The review team consists of five international aviation security experts from South Korea, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, and Tahiti, who will spend four days performing a detailed ACI APEX (Airport Excellence) security review at Nadi International Airport.
Fiji Airports has expressed its gratitude for the opportunity to participate in this essential evaluation. The insights gained from this initiative will contribute to the objectives outlined in Fiji Airports’ strategic plan for 2025-2034, specifically regarding safety, security, and compliance. Ultimately, these improvements aim to enhance Fiji Airports’ capabilities as it strives to establish itself as a world-class aviation hub in the Blue Pacific region.
This proactive step taken by Fiji Airports highlights a commitment to maintaining high security standards and ensuring the safety of all travelers, which can foster greater confidence in air travel as the industry continues to rebound.
In summary, Fiji Airports is leveraging this expert review to strengthen its security practices, aiming for enhanced safety and compliance that will benefit the entire aviation community in the region.
