A 40-year-old man has been charged with assault resulting in actual bodily harm to his 38-year-old wife, while a separate case involves a 38-year-old man accused of inflicting bodily harm on a 41-year-old woman. These incidents were underlined in the November 2024 statistics published by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions concerning crime and non-sexual violence offenses.

In a notable case, a 49-year-old man was charged with intent to cause grievous harm after allegedly stabbing a victim in the back with scissors during a conflict. Additionally, a 41-year-old man was charged with a similar offense, but this case was dropped when the victim could not be reached.

The statistics reveal a worrying trend in robbery and burglary, with various incidents reported involving stolen cash and goods due to break-ins at homes and shops, as well as muggings in both daylight and nighttime. Notably, a 17-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man were charged with theft and burglary.

The list of offenses continues with a 34-year-old man and a 29-year-old man charged with aggravated burglary after allegedly breaking into Tilak High School in Lautoka, where they vandalized property, including computers and filing cabinets. Similarly, two 19-year-old men were charged after breaking into Kids First Kindergarten in Suva and stealing school supplies and furniture.

In total, 21 individuals faced 27 charges related to non-sexual violence offenses in November, which included serious crimes such as murder and aggravated robbery. Among these, 13 victims were identified, with two of the accused being minors. Of particular note, two incidents involved familial relationships between the accused and the victims.

It is crucial for communities to address underlying issues behind these incidents to reduce violence and promote safety. Awareness and preventive measures can play a vital role in curbing such destructive behaviors, paving the way for a more peaceful society.

As we analyze these statistics, it’s worth mentioning the importance of community support and intervention programs aimed at reducing violence and supporting victims. These efforts can potentially foster a more cooperative and secure environment for all.
