The Ba Rugby Union has announced the appointment of Ben Tora as the new head coach for the upcoming domestic competition. This decision was shared by Ba Rugby Union secretary Gabby Kautoga, who also confirmed that Tora will be succeeding former Flying Fijian star winger Vilimoni Delasau. Although Delasau will be stepping up to serve as a Ba Rugby ambassador, he will still be involved with the team, albeit in a limited capacity due to ongoing injury problems.

Kautoga expressed that Tora underwent a thorough interview process before receiving confirmation for his new role. Additionally, Waisale Tikomailepanoni has been appointed as the head coach for the Ba women’s rugby team, while Josaia Tuwai will continue in his position as the head coach for the Ba Under-20 team.

During a recent Special General Meeting, Kautoga indicated that Ba Rugby has formulated a backup plan for club games in anticipation of the Fiji Rugby Union potentially adjusting the Skipper Cup competition schedule to August next year. He mentioned that there will be an increase in the number of clubs participating, from 32 to 40, and emphasized the importance of improved administrative practices among teams, such as managing registration and punctuality on game days.

Kautoga pointed out that while Ba Rugby has made significant strides, there is still room for growth. The organization’s ambition is to solidify their standing in the Skipper Cup competition, aiming for a placement in the top five, especially after successfully finishing in the top eight this past season and avoiding relegation. Their ultimate goal is to contest for the prestigious Farebrother Trophy in the future.

In summary, the Ba Rugby Union is making strategic changes to enhance its teams and administrative structure. With Ben Tora at the helm of the men’s team, along with a focus on growth and improvement, there are promising developments on the horizon for Ba Rugby. The organization’s commitment to elevating the standard of play and administration bodes well for its future success.

This hopeful narrative showcases the dedication of the Ba Rugby Union to progress, fostering a competitive environment, and potentially achieving greater accolades in the coming years.
