Leadership transitions within the Fiji Corrections Service will not hinder its core mission, according to Acting Commissioner Auta Moceisuva. He addressed concerns regarding the stability of leadership after multiple officials were suspended from their roles between 2023 and the previous year.

Upon taking office, Moceisuva prioritized reassuring the service’s officers that despite these changes, the Corrections Service’s objectives remain constant. He emphasized the importance of adhering to their oath of allegiance and executing their responsibilities in accordance with the law. “We have an oath of allegiance that whoever comes in the position of leadership, everyone must toe the line because in an organization mandated to deliver correctional service to the centers around Fiji,” he stated, highlighting the crucial role of the Corrections Service within the justice system.

Moving forward, Moceisuva has set the focus on enhancing officer capacity, improving remuneration, and furthering the work of the organization. The Fiji Corrections Service has experienced significant leadership upheaval in recent years, notably marked by the suspension of former commissioner Francis Kean in 2023. Subsequently, the service has seen interim leadership from individuals such as Salote Panapasa and Sevuloni Naucukidi, with former commissioner Dr. Jalesi Nakarawa also having been removed.

The commitment to maintaining operational integrity amidst changes reflects a resilient approach within the Fiji Corrections Service, fostering hope for stability and progress in its future endeavors.
