As the trials for the U19 women’s national cricket team approach, 16-year-old Akosita Levaci is fully committed to securing her place in the lineup. Hailing from the small village of Tokalau in Kabara, Lau, Levaci’s love for cricket blossomed at a young age, propelling her through the national ranks after her debut last year.

During her previous stint with the Fiji Women’s Under-19 squad, Levaci was among the youngest players competing at the regional tournament in New Caledonia. Now, she is focused on the trials, determined to earn her spot once more. “The coach has asked me to work more on my batting and bowling and to focus on improving my techniques,” she shared.

Despite the challenges of rigorous training sessions, Levaci believes the hard work will pay off, not just for the trials but also for her future on the national team. “With all this training, if I make it to the national team, I hope to win player of the match in one of my next international matches,” she expressed with enthusiasm.

Cricket, though still a developing sport in Fiji, finds Levaci encouraging young people to explore its potential. “Cricket is a really easy game to play; anyone can play the game, you just need to try it out,” she noted, highlighting the accessibility and enjoyment the sport can bring.

Despite the limited opportunities for cricket in her area, Levaci maintains a hopeful vision for her future. She dreams of not only turning professional and signing an overseas contract but also giving back to the sport that holds a special place in her heart. Her determination and passion serve as an inspiration, showcasing the possibilities that lie ahead for aspiring athletes in Fiji.
