Education Minister Aseri Radrodro has once again urged parents and guardians in Fiji to allocate the $200 government assistance specifically for their children’s back-to-school preparations. This appeal was made during the launch of the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS) online application system in Suva.

Mr. Radrodro stated that this financial assistance aims to help families gear up for the upcoming 2025 academic year, emphasizing the importance of using the funds exclusively for educational necessities such as uniforms, books, and stationery. “The $200 is to provide assistance for parents and guardians in terms of preparing their children to start with their 2025 academic journey,” he noted, urging families to adhere to the intended purpose of the funds.

Finance Minister Biman Prasad supported this message, pointing out that such assistance represents the government’s effort to address the financial challenges many families face due to rising living costs and the lingering impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. He highlighted that this initiative is particularly beneficial for households with annual incomes below $50,000, historically supporting around 200,000 students each year with a government investment of approximately $130 million.

The recent rollout of this financial support comes at a pivotal time as families emerge from the holiday season, needing to purchase essential school supplies. This support not only aims to alleviate the immediate economic burden but also fosters educational readiness among students. The government’s proactive strategy demonstrates a commitment to enriching educational opportunities, paving the way for a hopeful future for students across Fiji.

In summary, the initiative reflects a broader commitment to educational investment, ensuring that children are well-prepared for their academic journeys ahead. As the new school year approaches, this financial aid serves as a beacon of hope for families, indicating the government’s dedication to supporting the educational needs of all students.
