The Solomon Islands will proudly field two teams in the upcoming Melanesian Spearhead Group Prime Minister’s Cup, set to take place in Honiara from December 9 to 12. This exciting announcement was made during the official tournament draw held at the National Stadium last weekend.
This year’s competition will include teams from Papua New Guinea, Fiji, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, in addition to the hosts, the Solomon Islands. The Solomon Islands will participate with both their senior national team and an Under-23 squad, providing a platform for both experienced players and emerging young talent.
Remarkably, both Solomon Islands teams will compete in Group A, alongside Papua New Guinea. Meanwhile, Group B will consist of New Caledonia, Fiji, and Vanuatu. The tournament will kick off with a highly anticipated match between the two Solomon Islands teams at Lawson Tama Stadium on December 9, while Vanuatu and New Caledonia will also clash in an opening Group B match on the same day.
Additionally, matches will be hosted at the newly constructed National Stadium in Honiara, where the Solomon Islands will be seeking to defend their title from last year’s competition.
This tournament not only showcases the sporting talent of the Pacific region but also fosters regional unity and competition. As the Solomon Islands look to assert their prowess on home soil, there is great anticipation for what promises to be an exhilarating series of matches.
