Temo Mayanavanua, co-captain of SWIRE Shipping Fijian Drua, will be sidelined for their upcoming Super Rugby Pacific match against the Hurricanes due to an injury sustained last week during a game against the Waratahs. Head Coach Glen Jackson expressed his disappointment, noting, “It’s a massive loss for him and for us as well. He leads our team very well on the field, so missing him for six weeks at this stage is a big blow.”
As the Drua prepare for this crucial home clash at Churchill Park, adjustments to the team lineup are necessary. Jackson recognized the challenge posed by the Hurricanes, sharing that they have been working hard and are a formidable opponent. He stated, “It’s a great game, you know the Hurricanes have been doing a lot of work in their very flash environment around heat work, and we’ve always had pretty good games against them. We’re looking forward to a good crowd there.”
In addition to Mayanavanua’s injury, Jackson confirmed that the Drua will also be without Elia Canakaivata and Poni Loganimasi, who have both signed contracts with Sale Sharks that will take effect starting in the 2026/27 season. Jackson praised Canakaivata’s commitment and performance, saying, “Elia has been unbelievable. His commitment, especially at his age, has been impressive. Losing quality players like this is not ideal. I know Sale Sharks are a good team, and he’ll be great over there.”
While the absence of key players presents challenges, the Drua remain focused on maintaining their competitive spirit as they prepare for the encounter with the Hurricanes. The team’s resilience and determination may serve them well in overcoming these setbacks and performing strongly in front of their home fans. The upcoming match not only serves as an opportunity for the remaining players to step up but also promises to be an exciting fixture for the community.
