Severe Thunderstorms and Heavy Rainfall Warning for Viti Levu: March 2025 Weather Outlook

Weather Update

Greetings from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi! It’s your unofficial weather anchor here, bringing you the scoop about the atmospheric shenanigans happening over our beloved Viti Levu. So grab your umbrellas and let’s dive into the details!

Right now, we have a special weather dance party happening, featuring Severe Thunderstorms and Heavy Rainfall—yes, you heard it right! This shindig is expected to keep the whole of Viti Levu on its toes for a few days. So, if you were planning on wearing your favorite sandals, you might want to reconsider. Rain boots anyone?

A weak trough of low pressure is lounging over the region with a companion low pressure system that seems to be taking its sweet time moving along. They’ve brought along some clouds and showers to add to the drama, and let’s just say, occasional showers will be guest-starring over the western half of Viti Levu, including the lovely Korolevu to Sigatoka stretch, Momi-Nadi-Ba-Rakiraki, Yasawa, Mamanuca group, Kadavu, and those smaller islands nearby. Elsewhere, the forecast is like a moody teenager: cloudy with some showers and the occasional drama in the form of isolated thunderstorms later in the day.

Now, about those isolated heavy downpours—these could show up, possibly bringing along a chance of flash flooding in low-lying areas. So, if you’re planning on wading through the water, you might want to find a life vest and a good flotation device!

Winds are currently blowing moderate to fresh from the south to southwest, like they’re in a hurry to get somewhere. And keep an eye out at sea, as it’s expected to be moderate to rough—think of it as Mother Nature giving her watercraft a bumpy ride!

Looking ahead to Sunday, expect to see more clouds joining the party, along with showers and those delightful isolated thunderstorms in Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Ra, and the Northern Division, along with Kadavu and the island clique. For everyone else? Partly cloudy with a sprinkle of afternoon or evening showers and the usual thunderstorm excitement.

Here’s a quick rundown for the hotspots:

**Navua / Suva / Nausori** – Clouds are out, with some showers and possible afternoon thunder booms.

**Nadi / Lautoka / Ba** – Expect occasional showers mixed with some thunderous fun.

**Sigatoka/Coral Coast** – Repeat after me: occasional showers with a side of rumbling thunder.

**Tavua/Rakiraki** – Same antics: showers and possible thunder shenanigans.

**Yasawa/Mamanuca group** – The shower and thunder duo will be making an appearance as well.

**Labasa, Savusavu, Lau/Lomaiviti, and Kadavu** – Clouds, showers, and isolated thunderstorms will share the limelight.

For **Rotuma**, it’s a similar script: occasional showers and the dreaded thunderstorms, with moderate winds giving the sea a bit of a jiggle.

So, there you have it folks! Don’t forget to check the latest updates, and remember to stay safe and dry!
