Schools across the Northern Division, Lau Group, and Lomaiviti, with the exception of Rotuma, will remain closed due to the continuing disruptions in water and essential services alongside the imminent risks from Cyclone Rae. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro emphasized the importance of this decision in light of the adverse weather conditions affecting these regions.
The closures will remain in effect until further notice. In contrast, schools situated in the Western and Central Divisions will remain operational; however, parents are advised to exercise their discretion regarding sending their children to school.
Minister Radrodro has urged school leaders to maintain constant communication with their respective Management Committees, District, and Divisional Officers to receive timely updates. This proactive approach ensures that all stakeholders are informed and prepared to address any challenges that arise from the weather.
This announcement is aligned with the Education Ministry’s ongoing commitment to prioritize student safety amid severe weather conditions, similar to previous measures taken during instances of heavy rainfall or other weather disruptions.
As the community navigates this situation, there remains a strong sense of hope that cooperative efforts and vigilance will ensure the well-being of students and their families during these turbulent times.
