The Southern Division task force executed two significant drug raids in Sakoca on Sunday, resulting in pivotal arrests and substantial seizures of illegal substances. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu confirmed that during the first operation at a suspect’s residence, authorities confiscated white substances believed to be methamphetamine. This operation was a collaborative effort involving the Fiji Police Dog Unit and the Fiji Detector Dog Unit (FDDU), which aided in uncovering the narcotics alongside various stolen items. The primary suspect has been apprehended, and investigations are ongoing.
In a parallel operation in the same vicinity, two men in their 30s were arrested after dried leaves, suspected to be marijuana, were found alongside additional stolen items. These individuals are also in custody as inquiries continue.
Furthermore, ACP Driu reported that additional arrests for unlawful possession occurred in Sigatoka, Nadi, and Taveuni, as part of a larger initiative to disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking networks. The Fiji Police Force encourages the community to remain vigilant and report any illegal activities through Crimestoppers at 919, signaling a proactive stance against drug-related crimes.
Overall, these operations underline a strong commitment from local law enforcement to combat drug crimes and enhance community safety. The public’s involvement in reporting suspicious activity is crucial, fostering a collaborative environment in the fight against drug trafficking.
