Rugby Rivals Reunite: Chiefs’ Narawa Set for Emotional Showdown in Fiji

Chiefs fullback Emoni Narawa is eager to face his longtime friend and former schoolmate, Etonia Waqa, a flanker for the Fijian Drua, in their upcoming match this Saturday. Both athletes hail from the prestigious Queen Victoria School and have shared extensive experiences in their journey to professional rugby.

Although their friendship remains strong, both players are focused on the competition ahead. “I’ve been in contact with Eto, we’re good mates, but yeah, I guess we’ll be enemies for 80 minutes and mates after that,” Narawa expressed, highlighting the camaraderie that exists even amidst rivalry.

For Narawa, this match is particularly sentimental as he will be playing his second Super Rugby game on home soil in Fiji. He is thrilled about the opportunity to showcase his skills in front of family and friends. “Really excited to come back and play in Fiji, to play in front of friends and family,” he commented, mentioning that his loved ones, including his parents and daughter, are present to support him.

The clash will take place at Churchill Park in Lautoka, marking an essential round 4 match in the 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season. The game is set to kick off at 3:35 PM and will be broadcast live on FBC Sports.

The Fijian Drua, currently seeking their first victory of the season after a series of narrow defeats, are hoping to capitalize on their home advantage and the support from the passionate local crowd. Coach Glen Jackson has made strategic adjustments to the lineup to enhance their chances against the Chiefs, who are entering as table leaders.

This match not only poses as a critical opportunity for points in the standings but also serves as a platform for the Drua to turn their season around. With the season still unfolding and the energy of the home fans behind them, there is renewed optimism for the Drua as they aim for success in front of their supporters.

As both teams prepare, fans are eagerly anticipating an intense showdown that transcends the field and showcases the spirit of rugby in Fiji.
