A pair of troughs is setting up over Fiji, bringing an increase in cloud, showers and periods of rain from later today through Tuesday. A weak trough with cloud and showers continues to affect northern and eastern areas, while another trough approaching from the west is expected to draw a moist northerly wind flow over the group later today.
Most places can expect cloudy periods with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, with rain developing from the west and spreading across the group from later today. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms with heavy falls are expected over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low-lying and flood-prone areas, so residents in those locations should monitor conditions closely.
Winds are currently moderate northeasterly, turning and becoming northerly from later today. Seas are forecast to be moderate to rough, which could affect coastal and marine activities. Mariners and those using small craft should plan accordingly given the expected sea state and the increasing northerly flow.
On Tuesday the outlook is for occasional rain and isolated thunderstorms with heavy falls possible over most places. Rain is expected to gradually clear from the west later in the day as northerly winds remain moderate to fresh before shifting and becoming southwesterly later on. Seas are again expected to be moderate to rough through the day.
Across the main centres, conditions are similar: Navua, Suva and Nausori can expect cloudy periods with showers and afternoon or evening thunderstorms with heavy falls (min 23°C, max 30°C). Nadi, Lautoka and Ba, as well as Tavua, Rakiraki and coastal areas from Sigatoka to the Coral Coast, will see showers with isolated thunderstorms and rain developing later (maxes around 30–32°C). Inland and northern towns including Labasa, Savusavu, Nabouwalu and Taveuni should prepare for afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms with locally heavy falls. The Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and the Yasawa/Mamanuca area will also see rain developing from later today. Rotuma remains under an easterly flow and will be mostly fine apart from brief showers, with moderate easterly winds and moderate seas (min 25°C, max 31–32°C).
