The inter-house competition at Dilkusha Methodist High School, held at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, showcased a remarkable display of talent from 180 participating students. Principal Satyendra Singh remarked on the exceptional competitiveness of the event, particularly among the sub-junior and junior grades, indicating a significant level of athletic potential within the school.
This year marked a heightened focus on track events, highlighting the exceptional runners among the students. Singh noted, “The increase in talent has led to a larger pool of athletes compared to the previous year,” with the school planning to select approximately 50 students for the upcoming Triple N zone meet, a notable increase from the 30 participants last year.
Singh emphasized the school’s ambition for its athletes to earn as many gold medals as possible at the zone meet, aiming for qualification for the prestigious Coca-Cola Games. He underlined that achieving these goals would require rigorous training and preparation to ensure the athletes are fully equipped for the upcoming challenges.
The support from parents, guardians, and school management was also acknowledged, emphasizing the vital role of community backing in fostering a thriving athletic culture within the school.
Overall, this event not only highlighted the competitive spirit and skills of the students but also set the stage for future successes in athletics, reflecting a wider positive trend in sports among Fijian schools where nurturing young talent is becoming increasingly relevant.
In light of the ongoing commitment to developing student athletes, there is great hope that the upcoming competitions will further cultivate their talents and contribute to a vibrant sporting community in Fiji.
