Nadi rugby winger Mosese Naura is celebrating a significant milestone in his sports career. After a series of impressive performances in the Skipper Cup competition, the 22-year-old feels blessed to have received a call-up to join the Fiji Airways men’s rugby sevens extended training squad, which he views as a divine opportunity.
Hailing from Navatusila in Navosa, Naura expressed his disbelief and excitement about the prospect of wearing the national jersey. “I am speechless; it was never in my mind to think that I could soon be wearing the national jersey,” he said following a training session at Bidesi Park in Suva. He emphasized the importance of hard work, stating, “Good things take time and good things come to those who work hard for it.”
Naura’s talent was on full display while playing for the Seattle Hawks during the recent McDonald’s Coral Coast Sevens tournament, a performance that earned him recognition from Fiji’s men’s rugby sevens head coach, Osea Kolinisau. Kolinisau described Naura as a raw talent who is progressing well but still has much to learn. “Today, he was electrifying,” Kolinisau remarked.
As the team prepares for the HSBC SVNS Canada Sevens in Vancouver later this month, Fiji will be looking to improve on previous performances. The coach acknowledged that despite their skills, communication on the field remains an area for improvement. Reflecting on earlier matches, he noted that their overconfidence against Uruguay in Perth cost them. For Vancouver, Kolinisau affirmed their commitment to meticulous preparation, stating, “We will leave no stone unturned, and we are gunning for the main prize.”
The upcoming matches against Uruguay, Spain, and the USA will test the team’s resolve as they strive to enhance their strategy and execution for success on the world stage. Naura’s inspiring journey and dedication highlight the potential for future achievements in Fijian rugby, making this an exciting time for the sport.
