Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu has urged officers to enhance their performance in the forthcoming financial year, particularly in light of an expected budget increase for 2025-2026. During his address at the opening of the Superintendent Qualifying Course, Tudravu candidly acknowledged public concerns regarding declining service delivery and diminishing trust in the police force.

“People are reaching out, expressing frustrations about officers who refuse to document reports and redirect the public to other stations,” he noted, emphasizing the need for empathy and professionalism among officers. He indicated that the police uniform signifies respect and humility, urging officers to embody these values in their daily duties.

Tudravu’s emphasis on the necessity for improved communication and service delivery builds on his previous calls for increased police visibility and accountability. Recent initiatives have aimed to bolster public trust, showcasing a commitment to internal reforms and an ethical policing culture that challenges previous misconduct perceptions.

The Commissioner has consistently promoted officer development, indicating that enhancing service quality is crucial for restoring faith in the Fiji Police Force. His leadership efforts have focused on encouraging camaraderie and teamwork within the department, especially among those working in challenging environments.

Given the call for heightened visibility and better engagement, there is hope that these initiatives will lead to a more positive relationship between the police force and the communities they serve. By advocating for empathy and professionalism, Commissioner Tudravu is paving a path toward a more effective and reliable police presence in Fiji.
