Rehabilitation in Action: Saint Thomas Primary School Gets a Makeover!

The rehabilitation project, costing over $30,000, is now underway at Saint Thomas Primary School in Lautoka, following the discovery of termite infestations that rendered two classrooms unsafe. To ensure students could continue their education without significant interruption, the government provided two temporary tents for classes.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka inspected the ongoing construction during his recent visit, emphasizing that the damage from the infestation had significantly disrupted learning. He expressed his satisfaction that work on a new classroom block is now in progress, responding to the school management’s earlier appeals regarding the critical situation affecting students’ education.

The Office of the Prime Minister has allocated building materials valued at approximately $30,221.17 to assist in the school’s restoration efforts. Prime Minister Rabuka reiterated the Coalition Government’s dedication to enhancing educational infrastructure, stating, “They are the heart of our future and together, we will continue to create opportunities and build a brighter, more prosperous Fiji for them.”

This initiative at Saint Thomas Primary School aligns with broader efforts to address challenges faced by educational facilities across Fiji, with ongoing projects aimed at improving infrastructures, such as those recently seen at Valelawa Primary School. Both initiatives underscore the importance of maintaining safe learning environments for students, illustrating a commitment to their education and well-being.

As these developments unfold, there is a hopeful outlook for the future, as they may encourage further advancements in educational infrastructure and foster improved learning conditions across Fiji’s schools. The government’s proactive steps to rehabilitate affected facilities highlight a wider strategy aimed at ensuring all students attend school in a secure and supportive environment.
