Powerlifting Fiji has unveiled an exciting competition calendar aimed at its athletes for the upcoming season. The federation kicks off the year with the Novice and Masters competition scheduled for March 1, providing an excellent platform for emerging powerlifters to display their skills and learn from established competitors. This event is particularly significant for participants aged 40 and older.

Following the Novice and Masters event, Powerlifting Fiji will host its Nationals on May 3. The July 12 East vs. West competition will see the defending champions, the West team, striving to retain their title after a successful inaugural event last year. A second national meet is set for September 20, which previously witnessed 21 national records being broken.

These local competitions serve as crucial preparation and selection opportunities for the Oceania Regional Powerlifting competition set for November 17 in New Zealand. Although dates for these events are confirmed, the venues are yet to be announced.

Looking ahead, Powerlifting Fiji is particularly optimistic as it approaches the 2026 Oceania Championships, which will be held in Fiji. The country clinched the bid to host this prestigious event during the 2024 Oceania Championships in Nauru, where its national team achieved impressive success by bringing home 19 medals. This victory has spurred a growing interest in powerlifting across Fiji, making the 2026 event’s hosting an important recognition of the nation’s emerging prominence in the sport.

In preparation for this ambitious season, Powerlifting Fiji has also welcomed new leadership. The recent Annual General Meeting saw the election of a new committee, led by president Ryan Bale, for a two-year term. This leadership team is tasked with maintaining momentum and guiding the federation through the upcoming season, particularly as they gear up for the Oceania Championships in 2025.

With strong confidence in their abilities, the new committee members are expected to meet forthcoming challenges while sustaining Powerlifting Fiji’s positive trajectory, both locally and regionally. Bale and his team have called on federation members to support these efforts through active participation and collaboration, which are crucial for reaching the federation’s goals.

In summary, Powerlifting Fiji anticipates a dynamic and successful season ahead, driven by new leadership and engaging competitions that support athletes as they prepare for significant regional events. The federation’s focus on collaboration and community involvement will be vital in elevating the sport to new achievements in the future.
