A High Court in Suva has released one of the two men charged in connection with the robbery of the Alison Supermarket at Laucala Beach Estate last year. Sosiveta Raura, 51, was cleared after Prosecutor Simone Seruvatu filed a nolle prosequi, which was accepted by Justice Thushara Rajasinghe. Raura had been facing four counts of aggravated robbery alongside 43-year-old Leone Lesumailepanoni.
Despite Raura’s release, the case against Lesumailepanoni continues. He remains in custody and had his case called in court for a substantive hearing as well as a bail application. Lesumailepanoni and his accomplices are accused of tying up a taxi driver and forcing him into the vehicle’s boot before threatening supermarket staff and customers with cane knives during the December 2 incident.
The outcome of the proceedings reflects the complexities of the legal process and the pursuit of justice within the community. While one suspect has been released, the ongoing case against Lesumailepanoni serves as a reminder that the legal system continues to hold individuals accountable for serious crimes. This situation underscores the importance of judicial processes in ensuring public safety and addressing criminal behavior effectively.
