Law enforcement agencies are intensifying their efforts to crack down on illegal drug activities as the festive season approaches. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu has issued a clear warning targeting individuals suspected of involvement in drugs, stating, “We are targeting anyone suspected of drugs.”
ACP Driu highlighted that police will be monitoring known drug hotspots and conducting inspections on vehicles and vessels throughout this bustling time of year. The police force is actively executing daily arrests as part of an operation designed to diminish the illegal drug trade during the holiday period.
Recently, at a routine check at the Nadonumai roundabout in Lami, just outside Suva, police encountered an incident where the driver of a stopped vehicle allegedly threatened an officer, prompting thorough investigations. With the help of the K-9 Unit, authorities uncovered a clear plastic wrapper containing five dried branches and leaves, believed to be marijuana.
A follow-up search at the suspect’s home led to the discovery of a zip-lock bag filled with loose dried leaves, further suspected to be marijuana. The individual is currently being held in custody at the Lami Police Station for further questioning.
ACP Driu reassured the public that such operations are part of ongoing efforts to combat drug-related offenses during the festive season and encouraged community support for police initiatives against drugs.
This proactive approach reflects a committed stance by law enforcement to ensure community safety and raise awareness about the illicit drug trade. By targeting illegal activities, police not only aim to protect citizens but also send a strong message that drug use and trafficking will not be tolerated.
In summary, police are reinforcing their operations to combat drug offenses during the holiday season, emphasizing a collaborative effort between law enforcement and the public to maintain safety and order. With continued vigilance and community support, this initiative could lead to a safer environment for all.
