A suspect has been taken into police custody following an arrest at the Nadonumai roundabout last night for allegedly possessing illicit drugs. During the arrest, the suspect reportedly threatened a police officer.

With assistance from the K-9 Unit, authorities discovered a clear plastic wrapper and zip lock bags that contained branches and leaves believed to be marijuana.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, ACP Livai Driu, emphasized that drug-related arrests are a regular occurrence, particularly as the festive season approaches. He noted that the Fiji Police Force is intensifying efforts to combat the transportation and distribution of illicit drugs throughout the country during this time.

“We are focused on individuals suspected of drug-related activities. Our teams will be monitoring various drug hotspots and conducting checks on vehicles and vessels that may be operating during the festive season,” Driu stated. He reiterated the commitment to surprise stop checks and encouraged public cooperation in the ongoing fight against drug-related crimes.

This concerted effort by law enforcement showcases a proactive approach to ensure community safety and a drug-free environment, highlighting the importance of collective vigilance and support from the public. As the festive season approaches, fostering safer neighborhoods through collaboration is a hopeful prospect for many families and communities.
