Operation Yavirau Strikes: K9s Lead Drug Trade Bust

The deployment of K9 capabilities continues as Operation Yavirau intensifies its efforts to disrupt the illicit drug trade and associated crimes.

Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations (ACP-O) Livai Driu stated that snap checks and searches were conducted with the assistance of the Fiji Detector Dog Unit and Police Dog Unit, leading to the seizure of both white and green drugs.

He reported that more than 10 people were arrested and taken into custody over the last 48 hours.

ACP Driu mentioned that aside from the teams focused on the special operations, officers on routine duties would also conduct snap searches on individuals exhibiting suspicious behavior.

“We are recording arrests throughout Fiji and in the past 48-hour period, arrests were made in Suva, Lakeba, Nanuku Settlement, Lami, Lautoka in the main city area, Nausori Highland Road, and Tukavesi.”

“A number of arrests and seizures were made possible through the joint deployment and snap checks conducted by the FDDU and Police Dog Unit, while others resulted from information and intelligence gathering.”
